About Asia LEDS Partnership Forum 2024

The Asia LEDS Partnership Forum 2024 in Bangkok is a flagship event that aims to develop regional cooperative strategies to enhance the ambition of development and implementation of NDCs and LT-LEDS, focussing specifically on energy and transport sectors. This is important in light of the upcoming deadline for nations to submit the third round of their NDCs in 2025. It is in response to ESCAP Resolution 79/1 on Accelerating climate action in Asia and the Pacific for sustainable development.

Specifically, the Forum is designed to help members better understand:

  • Long term LEDS: Long-term vision setting, inputs from Global Stocktake (GST), regional overview, institutional arrangement, roadmap development;
  • Country Experiences from past NDC Planning, Financing and Implementation; opportunities and challenges for NDC 3.0;
  • Strengthening electric mobility roadmaps, technical training on approaches/policies for installing charging infrastructure as well as battery recycling/ repurposing

Organizers

The Forum is organized by the Asia LEDS Partnership and is hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), with support from Global Climate Action Partnership (GCAP), USAID Southeast Asia Power Program (SPP) and the NDC Partnership. Other supporting partners include the United Nations Regional Collaboration Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RCC), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other partners.

Target Audience:

The Asia LEDS Forum 2024 is expected to convene around 100+ participants, including about 70 country representatives from various Asia-Pacific nations working on LEDS and ambitious new NDC commitments across the region from national level policy makers, international development partners, financial institutions, as well as private sector representatives.

Key participants

Representatives from the Leadership Group for Clean Transport member countries, Energy Community of Practice (CoP) countries, and other regional countries. Additionally, around 30 participants from partner organizations such as GCAP, ALP, NREL, SLOCAT, ICLEI, and ALP SC members are expected to attend the event.

Participating Countries:

Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Viet Nam, Uzbekistan. Other countries from the Asia-Pacific region, including small island developing states: Papua New Guinea and Fiji.
